Zoom has a feature that allows meeting hosts to enable automatic live transcriptions. This feature provides automatically-generated captions during your live Zoom meetings.
Note: Transcriptions do not work in breakout rooms or Zoom on Linux OS. Participants will only see the Live Transcript option if the Host enables it.
To enable live transcriptions: update your version of Zoom, start a meeting, and click ‘Live Transcript’ > ‘Enable Auto-Transcription’.
1. Update Your Zoom App to the Latest Version
To ensure you have the latest version of Zoom, check for updates:
-
Sign in to Zoom desktop client.
-
Click your profile picture, then select 'Check for Updates’.
-
If there is a newer version, Zoom will download and install it.
-
For more information, check the Zoom Help Centre.
-
If you are unable to update to the latest version of Zoom, contact the I.T. Service Desk.
2. Enable Automatic Live Transcriptions in a Zoom Meeting
Only the meeting Host can enable Automatic Live Transcriptions; Participants will not see transcriptions unless the host enables them first.
-
Start a Zoom meeting as the Host and click the ‘Live Transcript’ button on the Zoom control bar.
-
Under ‘Live Transcript’, select ‘Enable Auto-Transcription’.
-
Your meeting is now live-captioned!
3. Additional Tips
-
Speak slowly and clearly.
-
Use an external microphone or headset.
-
Pause for a moment between speakers so the captions can better identify the active speaker.
-
Participants can adjust the transcription settings by clicking ‘Live Transcript’ and then ‘Subtitle Settings’.
