Enable Automatic Live Transcriptions in Zoom

Zoom has a feature that allows meeting hosts to enable automatic live transcriptions. This feature provides automatically-generated captions during your live Zoom meetings.

Note: Transcriptions do not work in breakout rooms or Zoom on Linux OS. Participants will only see the Live Transcript option if the Host enables it.

To enable live transcriptions: update your version of Zoom, start a meeting, and click ‘Live Transcript’ > ‘Enable Auto-Transcription’.

1. Update Your Zoom App to the Latest Version

To ensure you have the latest version of Zoom, check for updates:

  • Sign in to Zoom desktop client.

  • Click your profile picture, then select 'Check for Updates’.

  • If there is a newer version, Zoom will download and install it.

3. Additional Tips

  • Speak slowly and clearly.

  • Use an external microphone or headset.

  • Pause for a moment between speakers so the captions can better identify the active speaker.

  • Participants can adjust the transcription settings by clicking ‘Live Transcript’ and then ‘Subtitle Settings’.
