Using External Tools

Setting Up the External Tool in Moodle

  1. Navigate to Your Course
    • Log in to Moodle and open the course where you want to add the external resource.
  2. Turn Editing On
    • Click the gear icon in the top right corner and select Turn editing on.
  3. Add an External Tool Activity
    • In the desired section, click Add an activity or resource.
    • Select External Tool from the list.

  1. Configure External Tool Settings
    • Activity Name: Enter a descriptive name.
    • Preconfigured Tool: If you see the tool you are looking for select it from the dropdown. If not, choose Automatic, based on tool URL.

  • Tool URL: Enter the URL provided by the publisher or platform (e.g., the link to McCampus for McGraw Hill Connect and SmartBook).
  • The rest of the instructions should be provided by the publisher.
  1. Adjust Privacy Settings
    • Share launcher's name with the tool: Yes
    • Share launcher's email with the tool: Yes
    • Accept grades from the tool: (Select based on publisher requirements; some platforms can sync grades back to Moodle.)
  2. Save and Display
    • Click Save and return to course or Save and display to test the connection.

Use McCampus: If integrating McGraw Hill Connect or SmartBook, please select McCampus.
