Connecting to Wi-Fi - Barrydowne Campus

Summary

Overview and how to connect to Cambrian Wi-Fi and Guest Wi-FI at the Barrydowne campus

Body

Wi-Fi for Students and Staff

Students and Employees are encouraged to use the "Cambrian Wi-Fi" wireless network for optimal service.  When prompted for credentials use the same username and password as the myCambrian website.  This network can access internal Cambrian resources and has a higher priority than traffic on the "Cambrian Guest" network.

Wi-Fi for Guests on campus

Visitors to the Barrydowne campus can connect to the "Cambrian Guest" wireless network for convenient Internet access.  Upon first connection a webpage will be displayed confirming that the user agrees to the acceptable use policy. Internal college resources are not available on this network and traffic is rate limited to a maximum of 10 Mbps per client.

Connecting to Cambrian Wi-Fi

By default, most modern operating systems should auto connect using the Student’s or Employee's myCambrian username and password.  However, the user must have logged on to either the myCambrian website or a Cambrian College computer prior to using the Wi-Fi in order to reset their password.  If you have never logged into a Cambrian College system and require additional information on where to find your username and initial password please refer to this article.

For Apple users that have subscribed to iCloud Private Relay, please refer to the note in the "iCloud Private Relay Warning Message" section at the bottom of this article.

If auto discovery does not work:

DNS over HTTPS, VPN clients, and other anonymizers are not supported

Please note that devices using DNS over HTTPS (DoH), traffic anonymizers (like Private Relay, IP Protection, etc.), and most commercial VPN clients are not supported.  Please refer to your device's or application's documentation on how to disable this functionality while using Cambrian Wi-Fi.

Most of these services are blocked while on campus since they bypass our system's ability to inspect for phishing, malware, and other malicious websites.

iCloud Private Relay Warning Message

iCloud Private Relay is not compatible with how corporate networks are designed and, to minimise the impact caused by this feature, Cambrian IT has configured our network to advertise that this service is not supported.  When connecting to an internal Cambrian College network with iCloud Private Relay enabled, you will be presented with a message warning you that the network isn't compatible with iCloud Private Relay.

In order to continue connecting to College's network, you need to select "Use Without Private Relay."

Disabling iCloud Private Relay in this instance will only disable it for the College's network, so you will still receive the same level of protection iCloud Private Relay offers when connected to untrusted public networks such as coffee shops.
