Outlook - Cached Exchange Mode (Exchange Online)

As part of our move to Exchange Online your Outlook client will be set to Cached Exchange mode. This is recommended by Microsoft to keep the Outlook experience consistent and responsive. Your Outlook will retain a local cache of the last 6 months of emails. All of your emails are still stored in Exchange but only the first 6 months are locally cached for best performance.

What this entails:

  • If you use the Search function in Outlook it will search your entire mailbox including items older than 6 months.
  • When scrolling in folders in Outlook you will reach the end of the list after 6 months
    • If you click on the "click here to view more on Microsoft Exchange" it will open the rest of the folder in Online mode which will have a slower performance.
  • If you have a folder that has items in it but all of them are older than 6 months you may get this message:
  • For best performance when searching/reading emails older than 6 months you can use the Outlook Web Access

This setting will affect all Cambrian managed devices, but on personal devices you will be able to select the options you would like to use; in this case we also recommend using Cached mode in Outlook for the best performance.
