Cambrian College wants you to be safe while on campus. That is why we perform emergency drills every semester.
Alertus is a company we are currently using to help manage our existing drill and emergency alerts. We provide notification of those drills through campus computer screens, overhead speakers, email, and an app you can download to your smartphone or portable device.
We recommend you download the Alertus App.
The Alertus app provides faster, more consistent notification of drills and real emergency situations occurring at Cambrian's main campus. The Alertus app is free to download. It does not cost you to download the app or set up an account, as you are accessing the app through the College's Alertus account. However, regular data use charges may apply, depending on your data plan similar to most other apps. The Alertus app will not use your data for marketing purposes or to track you. Use of the Alertus app is optional. If you choose, you can still receive notifications through the email you provide to the college.

Q. Why are you recommending the Alertus App for notifications of drills and emergencies on campus?
A. Alertus is already a vendor we use for our emergency notification management system. The app is an additional tool to notify our employees and students about drills or actual emergencies.
Q. We already receive text alerts, emails and notices on our computer screens. What is the advantage of the Alertus app?
A. The Alertus app gives you real-time notifications for emergency drills and actual emergency situations at the college, and it does so in the proper order. At times, notifications through email would arrive out of sequence.
Q. What kind of personal information does the Alertus app need to work?
A. The app requires your preferred email. All other necessary information is provided by Cambrian College, as you are using the College’s Alertus account.
Q. What does the Alertus app do with my personal information?
A. You can find the full Alertus app privacy policy here: https://www.alertus.com/mobile-recipient-privacy-policy . Alertus uses your personal information only to improve its service. It does not sell or share your information with third parties for commercial purposes without your consent.
Q. Does the Alertus app track my location?
A. The app does track location to provide regional based alerts to the user from public emergency systems. However, you have the option to disable this feature. Refer to the privacy policy for more details
Q. Is there a cost to using the Alertus app?
A. No, there is no cost to you to download the app or create an account, as you will be on the Cambrian Alertus account. However, data us charges may apply, depending on your data plan.
Q. Do I have to use the Alertus app to get notifications of drills or emergency situations?
A. No. The app is voluntary. You can continue to receive those notifications through email, but we will no longer be sending notifications through text. If you opt for email notifications, please ensure you input and update your preferred email into the Personal Checklist section of your personal myCambrian portal.
Q. What if I don’t like the app? Can I remove and uninstall it and go back to email?
A. Yes you can. We do ask that you check your myCambrian account and be sure you have provided us with your preferred email for receiving emergency notices. You will also continue to receive emergency notifications on campus through our public address system and computer monitors.
Q. Will this tell me about other emergency situations or alerts, or only those at Cambrian?
A. Under our account, you will only receive notification of drills or actual emergencies at Cambrian’s main campus (Barrydowne Road) in Sudbury. The app does not cover drills or emergency situations at our satellite sites in Espanola, Little Current or Val Caron (Greater Sudbury).
