How to use Gartner for corporate or academic research
Cambrian College maintains a subscription to Gartner, a leading global technology research firm, to assist in the evaluation of new technologies and services.
The Gartner research process involves input from a variety of market and client sources, viewing technology topics from every angle. It is designed to accommodate change while considering topics that might not be obvious or mainstream. Staff and students can use Gartner to research and compare details of thousands of technology solutions.
Staff and Faculty
Can use Gartner to:
- Plan courses that are relevant and innovative for business and IT
- Access data and information to substantiate the evidence in research
- Offer materials that complement lectures and seminars
- Benchmark and appraise commercial opportunities
Students
Can use Gartner to:
- Gain exposure to real-life business case studies, trends and expert opinion
- Understand and keep up to date on technologies and tools available
- Discover how organizations improve operational effectiveness
Please note that purchases of technology solutions and services must be coordinated through the Purchasing and the Information Technology departments, regardless of cost, as per the College's Procurement Policy and IT Acceptable Use Policy.
How to access Gartner Resources
Gartner is available as a Microsoft 365 application and can be accessed by signing into portal.office.com.
Select the "waffle" icon in the top left of the browser window
Select "Gartner" from the application list, it is not visible expand "All apps" to select it
How to use Gartner for research?
There are several ways to use Gartner to research tech solutions. The first is the search bar at the top of the site.
Use Magic Quadrants to view vendor status compared to market competitors or view History to see how a vendor has progressed in the market
View company Vendor Ratings with full analysis, simply search for the vendor name and select "Vendor Ratings":
Search for vendors and compare their platform reviews through "Peer Insights" from other industry professionals. This can be found in the right pane of vendor search results.
