When setting up your gradebook in eGrades, each category (e.g., Applied Activities, Tests/Exams, Quizzes) contributes a specific percentage to the final course grade.
Within each category, you’ll be asked to calculate the occurrence weight. This means that all individual items—called occurrences—such as specific quizzes, assignments, or activities, must add up to 100% within that category.
The occurrence weight determines how much each item is worth relative to the other items in the same category. If the total doesn't equal 100%, eGrades won't calculate the grades correctly, which can lead to misreported final scores.
The formula to calculate the occurrence weight of an assignment inside a category is:

Example:
Let’s say you have an Applied Activities category that is worth 45% of the final grade. This category includes three activities:
-
Lab 1 – 10% of the total course grade
-
Lab 2 – 10% of the total course grade
-
Case Study – 25% of the total course grade
Step 1: Add Up the Weights in the Category
10+10+25=45%
Step 2: Calculate the Occurrence Weight for Each Activity
To find the occurrence weight (the percentage each item should hold within the category in eGrades), use this formula:

For this category
- Lab 1: (10÷45)×100=22.22%
- Lab 2: (10÷45)×100=22.22%
- Case Study: (25÷45)×100=55.56%
Step 3: Enter These Weights in eGrades
