- Disconnect everything from your monitor. There should be one display cable and one power cable. You may have a USB cable that’s also connected. This is to provide functionality to any onboard USB ports on the monitor. The VGA cable typically has blue connectors and HDMI will look similar to a USB cable.

- Wrap up the power and display cables and safely transport your monitor home.
- When you get home, you’ll need to connect the monitor to your laptop. Depending on which laptop model you have, there will be different video port options. The most common on Cambrian laptops are VGA and HDMI.
- Connect the power cable accordingly and use the HDMI or VGA cable from your office to connect the laptop. Then locate either the VGA or HDMI ports on the side of your laptop. Connect both ends to the laptop and monitor.
- The monitor should be detected the laptop automatically and display your desktop. If not, you can hold the Windows key (in between the left CRTL and ALT on your keyboard) and P at the same time to extend or mirror your desktop.
- You can also right click on your desktop background and select “Display Settings”
- Click “detect” to discover any connected displays manually
- Once the monitor is detected, you can move it around to your liking so it’s easier to navigate your mouse in between screens. Click Identify to see the number assigned to each screen. Try to replicate the physical setup of your monitors like below. Example: make sure that monitor 1 and 2 are placed left-to-right in the proper order. You won’t be able to move your cursor properly to the next screen if not.
- If the monitor is still not connected, try changing the “source” on the monitor. Like a TV, there are different input settings. It should be set to automatic, but the button may have been accidentally touched during setup. It’s usually located on the bottom right of the screen and is a physical button on the monitor itself. You can press it until you get to the proper input (Auto, VGA, HDMI).
