How to Create a Forum in Moodle

A Forum in Moodle allows students and instructors to participate in online discussions by creating posts and replying to others.

1. Turn Edit mode on in your Moodle course.
2. Go to the section where you would like the forum and select Add an activity or resource.
3. Select Forum.
4. Enter a Forum name and, if needed, add instructions in the Description field.
5. Under Forum type, choose the type of forum you would like to use. For a standard discussion where students can create their own topics and reply to others, select Standard forum for general use.
6. Review any additional settings you need, such as Availability, Groups, Ratings, or Completion conditions.
7. Select Save and return to course.

Once the forum has been created, students can open it and select Add discussion topic to create a new post.
