Multi-Factor Authentication for Board of Governors.

Enrolling in Multi-factor Authentication for Board of Governors

Overview

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security measure that requires users to provide two or more forms of authentication before granting access to an account or system. It adds an extra layer of protection beyond just a username and password.

A simple example of Multi-Factor Authentication is withdrawing money from an ATM. To take money out of your bank account at an ATM, you need to insert your bank card (something you have) and provide your PIN (something you know). Missing either piece of identification will prevent the transaction

Pre-requisites

  • Your Cambrian College Board of Governors credentials (user name and password)
  • Your smart phone or tablet.
  • A computer or secondary device to follow the setup instructions.
  • An Internet connection

Follow the below instructions to login to your Cambrian College account and add the MFA authentication method to complete the enrollment process. Enrolment can be one or more of the following options:

  • Using the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smart phone or tablet. With the app, you can approve login attempts (when your phone is connected to the Internet) or retrieve authentication codes when your phone is offline. This is the most convenient and and secure recommended method.
  • Using a cell phone, or smart phone to receive an automated voice phone call to approve login attempts.
  • Using a cell phone or smart phone to receive authentication codes by text messages (SMS).
