This article explains how to export a Moodle question bank as a .xml file to share with another instructor.

Step 1: Exporting the Question Bank (.xml Format)

1. Go to your Moodle course.
2. In the Administration menu, select Question bank > Export. 
3. Choose the Moodle XML format. 
4. Under Export category, select the category of questions you want to share and uncheck write context to file. 
5. Click Export questions to file.
6. Save the .xml file that downloads to your computer.
7. Share the file with your colleague (e.g., via email or OneDrive).

Step 2: Importing the Question Bank into Another Course

The receiving instructor should:

1. Go to their own Moodle course shell.
2. In the navigation menu, select Question bank > Import. 
3. Choose Moodle XML format. 
4. Click Choose a file, then upload the .xml file that was shared.
5. Click Import.
6. Moodle will confirm the questions were successfully added to the question bank.

Notes and Tips

• Quizzes themselves cannot be exported in a way that keeps their layout and settings; only the questions can be shared.
• Each instructor must recreate their own quiz activity and link the questions manually.
• Ensure that any media or images used in the questions are correctly included during the export/import process.
